Lecanto

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Richard Charles "Dick" Walton, Sr., who departed this life on June 17, 2025, in Lecanto, Florida, at the age of 83. Dick was born on September 29, 1941 in Charleston, West Virginia, to the late Major Jack Walton and Ruth Pearl Walton. He was a long-time resident of Lecanto, Florida, where he enjoyed a fulfilling retirement.

Dick dedicated many years to his career at Columbia Gas, from which he retired in 1999. Upon retirement, he embraced the relaxed pace of Lecanto, making his home in Eldorado Estates. He was well-known for his generous spirit and good-natured humor, which endeared him to the many friends he made in the community. Dick had a special place in his heart for his beloved dogs, often treating them to the finest snacks and leftover dinners, ensuring they lived a pampered life.

In his early retirement, Dick found joy and camaraderie on the Gulf, where he loved to fish and socialize with his buddies. He was also an avid bowler, spending countless days on the lanes with friends and proudly achieving a perfect 300 game.

Dick was preceded in death by his beloved wife,

Mary Ann Walton (nee Fiorucci) and his sister, Carol Sue Walton. He is survived by his two sons, Richard Charles Walton, Jr. of New Market, Virginia, and Matthew O'Brien Walton and his wife, Becky, of Crozet, Virginia. He also leaves behind his cherished furry companion, Charlie Brown. Dick was a proud grandfather to Caleb and Katherine Walton. He is also survived by his brother, Jack Terry Walton and his wife, Betty, of Huddleston, Virginia, and his nephews, Jack Walton and his wife, Amy, of Altavista, Virginia, and Jeff Walton and his wife, Linda, of Lynchburg, Virginia, and his niece, Jenny Roark and her husband, John (Chip), of Altavista, Virginia, and his former spouse and mother of his children, Judy Kelley, of Rockingham, Virginia.

Dick's warmth, humor, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
